Officers announce appointment of Deputies
New Secretary and Treasurer appoint new Deputies

Lorain - Two of the three deputy positions within the LCYD have been filled. Current LCYD Treasurer Rebekah Litteral announced the appointment of James Ward to serve as the new Deputy Treasurer. James will be taking over for Eva Wolkowitz who has served in various finance leadership rolls for the LCYD. Eva's departure after over 2 years of service marks a changing of the guard for the finance committee. Her years of service has helped build the finance arm of the LCYD into one of our strongest assets. In addition to his recent appointment to Deputy Treasurer, James has also been appointed to serve as the Membership Committee Chairman.

Brandi Mitchell, while she declined to run for re-election as Secretary, has agreed to stay on as Derek Feuerstein's Deputy Secretary. Brandi has serves as either Secretary or Deputy Secretary for a few years now and will be a great asset to Derek's transition into his new position. Her appointment will ensure an easy transition in this vital office.

The final and newest Deputy position, Deputy Executive Director, remains vacant. Adam Bryda, the current Executive Director at this point does not have any immediate plans to fill the position. However, he has said as various projects move forward throughout the year he may need to fill this roll in the future. The former Deputy Executive Director, Cory Shawver, was not re-appointed when he was successfully elected Vice President this past February.

LCYD Secretary will not seek re-election
Brandi Mitchell to step down as Secretary

North Ridgeville - After holding both the offices of Deputy Secretary and currently Secretary Brandi Mitchell has decided not to seek re-election in 2007. For nearly 2 years she has held various positions within the LCYD and had been the leader on numerous projects. Brandi led the committee that selected a series of Internships in Washington DC and more recently took charge in planning and organizing the Christmas Party. Over the year she has proved instrumental in the development and continued growth of our organization and her absence in a leadership position will be greatly felt.

Brandi made this decision as she prepares for her wedding this coming year. We all wish her well and thank her for her years of service; she is truly a model LCYD member. Thank you Brandi!

Statement from Brandi Mitchell;

Dear Mr. President:

It has been a pleasure serving as the Lorain County Young Democrats Recording Secretary. As my term is coming to an end I have decided not to run for re-election. There are a few reasons that have brought me to this decision. In the fall of this year I will be getting married and there are many events over the course of this spring and summer that will require my attention and would take me away from my duties as the secretary of this organization. In addition, my wedding and subsequently my honeymoon will take place just a few weeks before this years general elections and I feel it would not be fair to take on the role of secretary when I know I will not be able to give this job my full attention. Also, these things may require me to miss at least a few general meetings and one of the duties of the recording secretary is to take minutes at each meeting. I am letting you know this so that you may pass this information on to the general body and let them know that I will support whomever decides to run for this position and to let that person know I will help in any capacity that I am able.

Thank you for the opportunity to serve this organization and perhaps one day I will be able to run for this office again.

Sincerely,
Brandi N. Mitchell
Secretary

A Great Day To Be A Lorain County Young Democrat!
A Letter to the LCYD

Fellow Young Democrats;
WOW! What a great day for our party! For the fist time in 16 years Democrats will hold nearly all state-wide offices and as Young Democrats we know we helped make that happen. Our gubernatorial candidate, Ted Strickland, appears to have won all but one of Lorain County's 235 precincts and Betty Sutton won the city of Lorain!

As the leader of our organization I am very proud of the long hours and effort many of our members put into this race and I thank all of you for your hard work! We had members in all aspects of this election working harder than I think Young Democrats in Lorain County have worked in decades. Dan Ramos and Cory Shawver worked with the coordinated campaign and for weeks manned the party HQ, Eva Wolkowitz worked in Sherrod Brown's office and lead campaign efforts here in and around Lorain County, Greg Haynes worked on Judge Zaleski's campaign staff, Brandon Rutherford worked as the field representative for Marc Dann's campaign. Other members who couldn't take on larger leadership rolls in campaigns turned out to help too and we thank you. Thanks to Rebekah Litteral, Andy Young, Brandi Mitchell, James Ward, Brian Dembinski, Adam Bryda, Derek Feuerstien, and Chase Ritenauer who all helped man phone banks and/or helped canvass. Whether it was walking on rainy days in Columbia Township, making phone calls at the HQ, or distributing yard signs we helped make a difference.

All the hard work our members did is something to be applauded and there is NO question in my mind that the Lorain County Young Democrats worked harder than ANY other Young Democrats chapter in Northeast Ohio! Most Young Dem organizations crumble and cease to function during major elections, but not here in Lorain County! Unlike our counterparts our members volunteered and took on leadership rolls this year and volunteered to make a difference.

Once again, thank you to all of our members who helped out this year. Today we should be proud to call ourselves Democrats and members of the LCYD!
